It was a Cold and Frosty Day

No, not a Wendy’s Frosty, what were you thinking?  Its the middle of January here!

Chris wanted to “Get Out of Dodge” or in other words, get in the car and drive all day.   With Scooter, me, a bag of sammies, another of cookies and a backseat full of water bottles.

We headed towards Madras and Bend and decided to visit some potential future camping locations.   We had a couple of difficult decisions to make;  where to stop first and where to eat the sammies.

Turns out, Joe’s Donuts in Sandy, OR was the first stop.  They had a line out the door, and they were all out of Buttermilk Bars.  We settled for cake donuts with glaze instead.  Joe’s Donuts is a Sandy icon, its a concrete block structrue painted red and white and outlined in black and its been that way for as long as I can remember, and before that even.

Their Buttermilk Bars will like to kill you, as they say, they are dense and rich and sit in your stomach for at least 10 hours after eating them, I swear.  Well, maybe not swear exactly, but I am telling ya, its the truth.  All of their donuts are good, its just that I have a special” thing” for a good Buttermilk Bar.

So, anyway, after that we stopped at Summit Ski Area in Government Camp Oregon.  Which is a teeny little one lift/one run skiing and sledding area located in a teeny little one horse town with a big, important sounding name.

That’s it, right there folks.

Onward, Ho!  To Madras. Stay Tuned.
