this is a mixture of different recipes which I combined, changed, added and revised over the years…
3 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
1 tsp cream of tartar
1 cup butter, softened
1 cup sugar
1 cup light brown sugar, not packed
1 cup veggie oil
1 tsp vanilla
2 tsp additional flavoring of your choice: almond, rum, or brandy
1 cup rolled oats
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 cup additional flavor of chips: white, butterscotch, milk chocolate, swirl (if it sounds good, try it)
1 cup chopped nuts, your choice: hazelnuts, almonds, walnuts, pecans (I prefer mine toasted)
Beat together your sugars, butter and oil until fluffy.
Add egg and flavorings and mix.
Add everything else except the flour and the chips, and mix.
Slowly stir in the flour and chips one cup at a time until just mixed together.
Roll balls into granulated sugar and place on baking sheets.
Bake at 375 for 8 to 10 minutes
